study questions:
1. Read Philippians 1:1-2. Who is the letter from? Let’s see how much we know about Paul and Timothy. Try and think of everything you can about these two men. You can use any scripture passages you like.
2. Read Colossians 1:1-2. How does Paul identify himself in this letter? What is an apostle? In the Philippians letter he identifies himself as a servant. What is a servant? Some of your Bibles may have a different word; what is it? Why do you think Paul used two different titles? What does Paul call the Philippians and the Colossians in his introduction? What do you think it means to be a saint or a holy one?
3. Read Philippians 1:3-6. Try and describe Paul’s prayer for the Philippians. Why is he filled with joy when he prays for them? Look in the back of your Bibles at the map section and find a map of Paul’s missionary journeys. Find Philippi and say what province it was in. Read 2nd Corinthians 8:1-7 and see if you can discover all the reasons Paul felt such affection towards them.
4. Read Philippians 1:6 again. Try and explain from all angles how God is completing the work he began in us. What do you think he has been working on with you lately?
